Top 5 Open Pod Vape Systems
You asked and we listened with the creation of this new community interactive list of our not so official top 5 vapes in specific categories.
Here is our compiled list for our top 5 open pod systems, in no particular order.
Smok Novo 2 Pod Kit
Our newest favorite is the recently released Smok Novo 2 Pod System. Designed as an upgrade to the original Novo, the new version brings all the features users have come to love but with improvements in both design and performance that bring the Novo 2 to a new level.
The first thing we noticed about the Novo was the familiar cobra design of the first line had been replaced with the colorful resin patterns made popular by the Smok Nord. Choices such as Blue/Black and Black/White resins are a very nice improvement over the old design. New to the Novo 2 line is also a White with 7 Color Spray unit that appears to be inspired by modern art and already one of our favorite new designs this year.
Beyond just style, the Novo 2 incorporates an upgraded internal battery that holds 800mAh of capacity, which makes it more suitable than ever for all-day vaping. The large battery does not proportionally affect the size of the device as it weighs in at only 3g more than the original Novo. We found the size to be the perfect fit between the, in our opinion, too small Novo and the often-bulky feeling Nord.
What sets the Novo 2 apart in our tests was the new dual-channel airflow design that brought more vibrant and complex flavors for both the salt nic and freebase e-liquids that we tested the device with the device. Though the battery is compatible with the original Novo Replacement Pods, it was when we matched it with the new Novo 2 Pods that we really noticed the improvements from the unique airflow.
The kit that we tested came with both a 1.0Ω Mesh Coil that allowed us to hit freebase juices like no other pod before it, and for MTL vaping, we found the new 1.4Ω Dual Coil to offer consistently flavorful hits with a variety of salt nics. From what we have heard, Smok also has plans to release a 1.4Ω Quartz Coil for the Novo 2 that will be designed especially for CBD and other oils, so check back soon for our thoughts on this.
Besides all these reasons to love the Novo 2, Smok has announced that the device is covered by their first every 12-month guarantee from Manufacturer’s Defects. Let’s face it, if there have been any complaints about pod systems, it’s usually how easily the battery can go bad and we don’t believe Smok would make this promise if they didn’t have faith in the units!
Once again, Suorin disrupts the industry. This new device has removable battery packs to ensure longevity. Instead of having to replace your entire pod device, you simply buy a replacement battery pack once you’ve reached the limit on the charge cycle!
One of the underlying features of the top open pod systems in this list is versatility, and the Edge is the front runner in this category. Not only can the device be used for salt nicotine e-liquids but also your favorite freebase/high VG juices. If you use both salt nic and freebase e-liquids, then the Suorin Edge is the choice for you!
Another extremely versatile pod system, the Smok Nord, features both MTL and DTL coils that perform exceptionally giving the vaper an extremely customizable experience, and since it’s release has received nothing but praise from the industry.
What truly sets the Nord apart though? We would say two things put it at the top of the pack. First is the massive 1100mAh battery capacity, which put it first amount popular pod devices when it comes to time between charges. Secondly, you won’t find a better looking and stylish pod then the Nord. The kit comes in either cobra patterns or the bright swirling resin colors that now include the all-new 7 Color Spray, 7 Color Oil Painting along with other bright and vibrant designs for a total of 31 different colors available.
If you are looking for an attractive design in a long-lasting pod style battery, then we suggest you check out this addition to our list!
Aspire Breeze 2 AIO
From one of the leaders in high-quality pods comes the Aspire Breeze 2 AIO. Like the original Breeze, the Breeze 2 is a compact and high performing vape but with added features that make it the best all-around pod in the list.
The Breeze 2 features a 1000mAh onboard battery for lasting charges, fully adjustable airflow at the base of the draw tightening drip tip, plug/pull replacement coils for both DTL and MTL vaping as well as a unique side button system to remove the pod.
If you want a device that is going to be no hassle and provide consistently reliable performance, then look no further than the Aspire Breeze 2 AIO Pod!
Uwell has done it again. The Caliburn device features a 520mAh internal battery and uses newly designed coils to produce some of the best clouds in the pod world. While unlike the others in this list, the Caliburn was manufactured specifically for Mouth to Lung (MTL) vaping with a focus on simplicity and safety.
Some of the features we believe will assist beginning vapers are the top fill cartridges (simply remove the drip tip), direct draw activation or via the fire button, strong magnetic contacts for the pod to the battery and the tightest, cigarette, like draw of any pod in its class. Additionally, the device can also be turned on and off by 5 clicks of the fire button to prevent use by children.
If safety and simplicity weren’t enough, the Caliburn utilizes a dual coil system that allows for perfect heating temperatures leading to rich flavor and massive clouds, unlike any other pod we have tried.
Since the pod has come out, the community has been going crazy over just how incredible the vape off the Uwell Caliburn is, and all the great features above make it our top pick for the beginning vaper looking to transition from analog cigarettes!
Lost Vape Orion Q
Feeling classy? This device is what we imagine a vape would look like back in the 1970s. Don’t let that fool you, though, as the Orion Q is the latest in pod vape system technology.
The unique design of the system includes a slide and click to install pod that can is conveniently filled via the screw off top plug and makes the device the most leak resistance of any we tested. Additionally, the pod features a clear window on both sides to take out the guesswork of when you need to refill.
If you want to vape both salt nicotine and freebase e-liquids, the Orion Q makes this easier then most others as the included 1.0Ω pod works great with either.
What makes this device truly stand out in the crowd and earn its place on this list is how compact the device is while still providing an internal 950mAh battery for extended vaping sessions between charges.
Amazingly, even with the large battery capacity, the device fits entirely in the palm of your hand and is the perfect size for your pocket or purse.
